Listen to the sounds of wild places and forests from all over the planet

Looking for some natural background noise during the day at your office or while you're reading at home? Or just keen to explore some wild places with your ears?

Check out Sounds of the Forest.

Created by British art collective Wild Rumpus in partnership with the UK National Forest Company, it is an online database with over 600 recordings of natural sounds from forests, wildlife refuges and other wild places around the world.

Using a well-designed and interactive "soundmap", you can select nature recordings from from all over the world, letting your ears travel from Michigan to Melbourne, Toronto to Taiwan. Once you start exploring, you can find some really remote with places like the Chernyaevsky Forest in Russia, or listen to the unique sounds of lemurs in Andasibe, Madagascar.

Let us know in the comments where you explore, and share any tips of interesting places to listen to.

Oh, and you can also apply to contribute to the project with your own recordings here
